Foundation for Agility

This is a Groundwork Focus class. It is available to those new to Agility and also to those currently competing at any level -- even upper levels. Groundwork is made up of skills necessary for agility including:

  • improved impulse control (wait, stay, come to hand, agility recalls)
  • targeting and how to use it (both paw and nose touches)
  • building drive through games
  • encouraging motivation through games
  • handling skills necessary between obstacles (Groundwork)
  • handler vs obstacle focus training
  • warm-up & stretching exercises
  • tricks to stretch the dog's learning
  • clicker training for those using it (introduction to those new to clicker training

Skills will be linked together into "sequences" but specific agility equipment will not be used. We encourage the dog to focus on the handler.

Just for Fun Agility

Focus is on handling and sequence work to allow the teams to improve foundation skills learned in Beginning Agility class. Basic obedience with a solid stay and recall is required. This is a Skills class. Each week, the focus will be on a different skill for agility. We expect that teams will stay at this level for several sessions.

Advanced Handling with Alan Gersman

This class is for competition teams only. An ongoing class with instructor Alan Gersman focusing on handling advanced agility courses.

Junior Agility Handlers

This is a special 8 week class taught by Alan Gersman, an international agility competitor, and is open to any Junior Handler who has completed at least a Beginning Agility Class and whose dog is confident on all equipment. The focus will be on the handling skills necessary to be successful with your dog on the agility field. The class will be outdoors in an unfenced field, off leash, so dogs must have a reliable recall and must not be dog aggressive in order to participate.

The cost for this 8 week class will be $100. In accordance with club policy, a parent or guardian must remain at the site during the class. Current students and club members are being given first opportunity to enroll in this class.
