"The Scoop"

With DGOTC's new organizational format and in the absence of a published newsletter, we'll be publishing announcements and event reports here. Members, please send notices and articles that you think will be of interest to club members to the webmaster! We'll shoot for twice-monthly updates, so think 1st and 16th of every month - what's new for DGOTC? Remember, you may now make your own brags on our website by going to the Club Member section.

Pat Miller Seminar

Pat Miller came to talk to DGOTC and friends on July 21, 2007 at the Leesburg Senior Activity Center. Committee members Clarissa Bergeman, Ann Hereford, and Averill Ring chaired the event, and, with the assistance of several club members, the all-day seminar came off smoothly. A special thanks to Maria Swezey, Maureen Taylor, Monica Patty, Marion Lee, and Sandy Silko for all their invaluable help. Thanks also to "the Georges" (George Taylor and George Bergeman) for all their hard work. Pam Allen, Ginny Baxter, Melanie Mecca, Melissa Muniz, Mary Starich, and Joan Wilson also deserve special thanks for volunteering demo dogs.

Ninety-eight people attended — including twenty-seven DGOTC members. As an added bonus, this nice turnout resulted in the club actually showing a profit of just over $500.00.

Pat presented the following topics:

  • Body talk
  • Reactive dogs
  • Biscuits not rolls
  • Working the dog who barks excessively
  • Working the dog who jumps up

The first three topics were lecture-only subjects, and for the barking and jumping up segments, several participants brought along their dogs to be used for demonstration purposes.

One of our attendees had this to say:

Thank you for putting on such a wonderful seminar. It was wonderful.

Pat was great and full of strategies for me to try at home (barking for warning, reactive dog issues).

The name tags were lovely pieces of artwork, the food delicious, the atmosphere warm and inviting and the company splendid.

From the committee, thanks to all members who participated in the seminar, and a special thanks to all who worked to make it a success.
